A new study has found that the tea used to brew tea is actually quite different to what is usually used.
In a study published in the journal PLOS ONE, researchers from the University of Queensland’s School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences found that, compared to regular tea, Earl Grey is much more alkaline.
“This study shows that the use of alkaline tea products such as Earl Grey and Earl Green is associated with lower alkalinity levels, which can have an impact on drinking habits,” Professor Richard Dittrich said.
“It is important to recognise that the alkaloid content of tea products is not necessarily the same as the alkaline content of a tea leaf.”
The alkaloids found in tea are different than the alkali contents of tea leaves.
“The study also found that tea leoni was not as good at protecting against bacterial infections as other tea products, which could help explain why many tea lovers are avoiding using it.
In other research, Professor Dittrock found that people who regularly drink tea at least once a week were more likely to have a low risk of heart disease than people who rarely or never drink tea.”
People who drink tea regularly may have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer,” Professor Datti said.”[However] the data shows that regular tea consumption is associated not only with a lower chance of developing heart disease, but also a lower likelihood of developing cancer and other health conditions.
